Breaking news: DOJ Approves Alaska/Virgin Merger

While this thing has been pending for a long time, it seems like the Virgin America/Alaska Airlines merger will finally be a reality. Today, the Department of Justice approved the merger, on the condition that Alaska ends codesharing ties with American Airlines. It seemed likely Alaska was going to have to cut codesharing with either American or Delta, so this isn’t really too surprising. However, we’ll have to see how this looks in practice as to the frequent flyer relationship between the two carriers.
